Natural Stone Information

As with all natural materials, each stone slab has its own color and pattern. These variations are not defects—they’re what make natural stone unique and striking. We invite you to visit ProGranite to personally approve the slab that will become your countertop. We can also give you small samples to help match paint, stain, carpet, or tile. Remember: samples show the stone’s overall look but won’t be an exact match to the finished piece.

With polished granite, marble, or quartzite, any of the natural features below may appear:

  • Filled areas (mostly in marble): Sections repaired with tinted epoxy can slightly reduce strength.

  • Vein, color, and movement changes: Especially common in “swirl” granites.

  • Fissures: Thin surface lines that rarely affect strength.

  • Beauty marks: Mineral spots or streaks that change color or polish.

  • Pitting: Tiny “pock marks” that form when tight grains don’t fully polish. Factory-resin filling hides most pits; unfilled pits are more visible but don’t weaken the stone.

These traits add character and usually don’t affect durability. ProGranite rejects any slabs with excessive pits, fading, or cracks that fail our quality standards. Because stone is a commodity, availability and prices can change without notice, and occasionally a slab you saw earlier may no longer be obtainable. We always aim to source the best-value material for your project.
